The National Capital Cycling Adventure: 3 Days

Ready for an unforgettable 3-day biking adventure? Join us to explore Canada's vibrant National Capital Region (Ottawa-Gatineau)!

Cycle over 250 km of safe, well-maintained paths through a truly bike-friendly city, while enjoying scenic views of historic landmarks, rushing waterfalls, and the magnificent Rideau Canal—North America's oldest operating canal system. This is a relaxed-pace trip designed for enjoyment, not racing. We'll include frequent stops for photos, conversation, and refuelling, ensuring everyone can soak in the experience. Each evening, unwind and share stories with fellow riders, capping off a perfect day.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Thursday: Arrival and Capital Exploration

  • Afternoon: Check into the hotel and enjoy some free time. Explore the heart of the city, visiting iconic spots like the bustling ByWard Market, the historic Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica, and the surrounding area of Parliament Hill.

  • Evening: Join the group for a casual Meet & Greet Dinner over pizza (not included). This is a great chance to relax, meet your fellow riders, and prepare for the journey ahead.

Day 2 - Friday: Choose Your Challenge

Riders will select one of two distinct cycling options for the day:

  • Option 1: The Lookout Challenge (Most Challenging)

    • Tackle the most demanding segment of the trip: the climb up to the Champlain Lookout in Gatineau Park. This ride offers rewarding views and is ideal for riders seeking a significant physical challenge.

  • Option 2: Relaxed Scenic Parkway Ride

    • Enjoy a much more relaxed and flat ride along the parkways. This route takes you past numerous natural sights, including several scenic beaches in the Ottawa-Gatineau region.

Day 3 - Saturday: Capital Sightseeing Circuit

The entire group will reunite to ride a loop along the dedicated bike paths surrounding Ottawa. This route is packed with iconic Canadian sights:

  • Official Residences: Pass by the Governor General’s residence and the Prime Minister's residence.

  • Waterfalls & Locks: View the powerful Rideau Falls and Hog's Back Falls.

  • Historic Waterways: Cycle alongside the Rideau Canal and observe the historic workings of the Rideau Locks.

This is a fantastic way to experience the National Capital Region! Let me know if you would like to clarify the logistics of the Day 2 options or expand the descriptions of the historical sites we'll see.

Accommodation

The ByWard Blue Inn is strongly recommended, given its central location in the ByWard Market area. The hotel will function as the primary starting point and meetup location for all rides and activities. Additionally, excellent feedback was received from a previous group of riders.

Urgent Booking Notice: The ByWard Market is a highly popular tourist destination, and rooms are limited. Please book your room as soon as possible to ensure you secure your accommodation with the group.
