About this event

Ride of Silence 2026 - 12kms

As this year’s riding season gets under way, add the reflective Ride of Silence to your schedule

There is no guarantee of safety on any of our rides, only the assurance of our knowledge, experience, and best efforts to keep ourselves safe. Keep riding long enough, and sooner or later you will have a close call on the road. Whether it is your fault or someone else’s, we should never neglect the risks we sometimes face. Nor should we forget those who have sometimes paid the ultimate price for those risks, a pointed reminder to the rest of us as we go on our way.

Once a year in May, groups of cyclists in hundreds of cities simultaneously ride silently through their communities to commemorate those who have died riding on local roads. This annual event began 23 years ago with a single outing in Texas, and within a few years had expanded to thousands of riders in dozens of cities across North America and around the world.

KVC was pleased to join this event last year, and we hope member participation will continue to grow. Upwards of 10 cyclists have been killed on our region’s roads over the past 15 years, many of them marked by white ghost bikes located where they fell. Like those bikes, The Ride of Silence marks what has been lost, and how hard we have to work to prevent such tragedies.

Please join us at 7pm at the south parking lot of the Lemoine Conservation Area, where we will begin this year’s Ride of Silence. It should be the quietest 12km of your season, and the most consequential — a time for setting your own intention to make life on the road safer for everyone.

Guests are very welcome and encouraged! To be added to the Registrants list, guests must complete an Adult Guest Rider Waiver or Adult with Minor(s) Guest Rider Waiver prior to the ride.
