4. RAIL TRAIL ROUTES
In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, an extensive network of railways was constructed in eastern Ontario, only to be abandoned in the latter part of the twentieth century. Fortunately various groups of farsighted folks managed to acquire a number of the abandoned railway beds for recreation purposes.
The rail trails are a wonderful cycling option for those looking for flatter routes without vehicle traffic. They are a particularly special place for families with younger children. During the course of the cycling season, we schedule numerous trail routes that start from Kingston, as well as from spots further out on the trails.
