PRE-RIDE MEETING

  • Arriving Arrive early (generally at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time), and bring your Ride Leader Kit with you.
  • Introduction Introduce yourself and any other Ride Leaders.
  • Minors and guests
    • Ensure that riders under 18 years of age are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
    • Obtain completed waiver for riders under 18 years old, and guests.
  • Speaking points
    • route and rest stops
    • hazards along route
    • ride etiquette and safety matters
    • when and where to re-group
    • instruct riders to inform the Ride Leader if abandoning the ride
    • introduce new riders
    • suggest people car pool on future rides if practical
  • Rider Kit Remind riders when appropriate that they should have the following:
    • the route details (electronic or paper); if not ask them to buddy with someone who does
    • appropriate tools and tire repair kit
    • the Ride Leader’s phone number
    • What3words app, if the route is out in the country
  • Group formation principles
    • organize the groups as appropriate
    • keep group sizes manageable; if too large, split into smaller groups
    • group sizes can be formed based on varying speed and ability levels; discuss the riding “rules” for groups where appropriate (e.g., single file, echelon, rotation, etc.)
    • do a headcount of the number of riders in the groups
  • Sweep The Ride Leader may decide to assign a sweep.

RIDE START

  • Start the ride on time and set a safe example.
  • Send faster riders off first.  Allow for a minimum gap of 100 metres between each group.
