Gravel rides explore varied and often isolated terrain, and so are generally ridden at a slower and more varied pace than road rides. In recognition, the following adjustments to the standard ride organization arrangements apply. The goal is to simultaneously accommodate a wide range of more experienced riders (C, B and A) on multiple routes of varying distances:
- Routes Two or more routes per ride will normally be offered (e.g., a short route of 45-65 km and a long route of 65-90 km).
- Ride Leader The ride may have only one Ride Leader, notwithstanding that there are multiple routes.
- Subgroups The riders may split into multiple subgroups on the different routes. However, riders may not ride solo. At least two riders are required in each subgroup. The Ride Leader will need to ensure that all riders set off in appropriate sub-groups.
- Regrouping Because of the often challenging road surfaces and the limited visibility in areas of dense vegetation, riders may not always be visible to each other. Thus, they will be expected to regroup regularly.
- Cell Phone Riders must have a cell phone loaded with the following information:
- Ride Leader’s cell phone number
- What3Words app
- Route details
- At the End All riders must check in with the Ride Leader at the end of their ride.
