After a weekend of turkey, pumpkin pie and all the trimmings (not to mention the libations), it's time to burn off some of those accumulated calories ...and this route is just the number to do it! The hard part first: east from our starting point in Hartington to the Holleford Crater then north to Desert (not Dessert!) Lake. A short 6.5 km stretch of gravel to the Westport Rd (Hwy #8) then a short hop east to Buck Lake Rd on which it is over hills and dales to Bradshaw Rd and thence west to Hwy #38 and Tichborne. An optional short detour into Parham for refreshments then back to Fish Creek Rd for the easy part: "coasting" all the way back to Verona and Hartington on the K&P Trail.
START LOCATION: Parking lot opposite the Kingston Frontenac Public Library on Hwy #38 in Hartington
START TIME: 09:00
FINISH TIME: approx. 13:00
DISTANCE: 65 km
EQUIPMENT/supplies: Doug Kennedy assures that the K&P north of Verona is perfectly passable on road bike,
as should be the gravel segment north of Desert Lake;
otherwise cross, touring or hybrid bike if preferred.
PACE/DIFFICULTY: Moderate
WEATHER: on the cool side (8-12 C) with winds from the west at about 16 kph but the route in N-S and sheltered.
