You won’t need a barrel to shoot these rapids and go over the falls, just your bicycle. Starting at the Smiths Falls Curling & Squash Club, we’ll travel some well paved and generally flat roads as we travel a less northerly loop than the Quick paced group enjoying some tree-lined country roads before we rendezvous with them at the Lock 17 Bistro (www.lock17.ca) in Burritt’s Rapids. Sample their craft beer, relax on the patio or picnic under shady trees by the picturesque locks. We’ll pass by or over no less than five of them on the Rideau Canal system so bring your smart phone or camera for some scenic shots. From Burritt's Rapids we'll trace the return route of the Quick paced group through Merrickville and Jasper back to Smiths Falls. Optional: A small finishing detour (about 3 kilometer round trip) to the local ice cream parlor before departing back home.

Note: The 11.5 kilometer stretch of hard packed dirt road should pose no difficulty for road bikes or bikes equipped with narrow tires. Be alert however for some isolated loose patches of gravel and washboard sections.
